About Umbra
Free, non-commercial OSINT tools to track and find people who abuse children, animals and adults, and the networks behind them.
If someone is in danger
Call 911 if a person or animal is in immediate danger. Umbra is a research tool, not an emergency service, and it never contacts anyone.

What Umbra does
- Person search: check a name against official sex-offender and animal-abuse registries and abuse-related sanctions, such as the U.S. Center for SafeSport and New York physician discipline.
- Reputation checks: domains, IPs and phone numbers, from Umbra's own threat data.
- Cyber wiki: vulnerabilities, attack techniques and standards, including every CISA Known Exploited Vulnerability.
- Crypto screen: OFAC sanctions and curated labels, including human-trafficking designations.
- Investigation tools that trace the online side of abuse: exploitation sites, sextortion, trafficking ads and scam infrastructure.
Coverage grows state by state. See which sources are covered.
Principles
- Free and open. No accounts are needed for registry search. There are no ads, no paid tiers and no paid reports, and data is never sold or licensed.
- Official sources only, used within each source's terms. A record that its source removes is removed here too.
- Name and official photo only. Registry results never show addresses, and person-search results are never indexed by search engines.
- A name match is not an identification. Every result carries its source's warnings and a link to the official record.
- Not a consumer report. Never use Umbra for employment, housing, credit or insurance decisions.
- Hard limits. Umbra never handles abuse imagery and never contacts or confronts anyone it names. Tips go to NCMEC, the FBI or local police.
Who runs it
Umbra is a nonprofit project founded by Carl Sullivan, a Marine Corps veteran, firefighter and cybersecurity engineer. The analysis code is open source: umbra-osint on GitHub and PyPI. Umbra does not accept donations yet; that will open once there is an organization to receive them.
